About Body Image Fitness

Body Image Fitness is more than just a workout program—it's a movement dedicated to celebrating and empowering every body. We believe that fitness should nurture self-confidence and self-love, not enforce unrealistic standards. Our community is built on a foundation of inclusivity, support, and body neutrality, where every individual can discover the joy of movement on their own terms. Join us and embrace a journey where strength, wellness, and self-acceptance come together to redefine what it means to feel truly fit.

Who are we?

Body Image Fitness is a welcoming, inclusive gym in Newcastle upon Tyne for all folks who want to move away from diet culture and reconnect with exercise on their own terms. It’s for anyone who wants to feel stronger, more confident, and more at home in their body, without shame, pressure, or judgement.

Founder and Head Coach Kim’s approach is shaped by her own journey, breaking free from toxic fitness ideals, healing her relationship with movement, and creating a community where others can do the same.

Through our small-group classes and supportive environment, we help you explore movement that feels good, builds strength, and supports your overall wellbeing.

Meet Hildy (She/Her)

Hildy is a multi-disciplinary performer, movement teacher, and weight-neutral fitness instructor with a deep passion for inclusive, empowering movement. With a degree in Contemporary Dance (2010), Hildy brings a rich and diverse background to her teaching, drawing from years of experience as a choreographer, performer, and educator across a wide range of styles—including ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, street, and vintage social dances from the 1920s to 1960s, which she now specialises in.

In her Mobilise & Strengthen class at Body Image Fitness, Hildy guides you through calisthenics-inspired training that focuses on bodyweight strength, mobility, and active flexibility. Her approach is all about helping you feel stronger, more in control, and more connected to your body—regardless of experience or ability. No mirrors, no judgement—just movement that supports joint health, builds real strength, and celebrates what your body can do.

Hildy has performed with companies including Kelly-Abbott Dance and Urban Jazz Dance, at venues such as the Metro Radio Arena, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Beamish Museum, Northern Stage, and Stockton ARC.

Expect expert guidance, thoughtful progressions, and a class environment that meets you where you are.

Why the weight neutral Approach?

At Body Image Fitness, we take a weight-neutral approach to movement and wellbeing. That means we shift the focus away from weight loss or body transformation goals, and instead centre strength, confidence, and feeling good in your body, just as it is.

Traditional fitness spaces often come with pressure to look a certain way or follow rigid standards that can harm body image and take the joy out of movement. We’re here to offer something different.

Our classes are designed to help you reconnect with your body, explore how it moves, and build strength in a way that feels empowering, not punishing. You’re encouraged to move at your own pace, listen to what your body needs, and celebrate progress that isn’t tied to a number on the scale.

This approach supports both physical and mental wellbeing, creating a more compassionate, sustainable relationship with exercise. Our goal is to help you feel stronger, more capable, and more at home in your body, however that looks for you.
